Like many, I’m still trying to absorb the news of Sinéad O’Connor’s death. I have done a lot of talking about her in the last few days because I felt I owed it to her. Her family and loved ones are constantly in my thoughts, and can’t imagine the depth of their loss. Last night in London, Annie Mac organised an event at the London Irish Centre, with various readings and songs - Aisling Bea sang Sinéad’s ‘Take Me To Church’. I couldn’t be there, but Annie asked if I would write something for her to read out. Below is an amalgamation of immediate thoughts. I’ve written a short Irish Times piece and something longer for the Irish Independent that will run tomorrow. I hope we’ll have a similar gathering for Sinéad in Dublin. May she rest in power.
